China Chiping

What is China Chiping?

China chiping (also called hacking or chipping) is a mechanical surface preparation technique where the smooth concrete surface is roughened using chipping hammers to create better bonding surface for waterproofing materials.

Why It's Necessary

• Smooth concrete has poor adhesion for waterproofing coatings
• Removes laitance and weak surface layers
• Creates mechanical key for better bonding
• Exposes aggregate for maximum grip

Application

Essential before applying waterproofing on: terrace slabs, basement walls, water tanks, and swimming pools. Particularly important for chemical waterproofing systems requiring strong substrate bond.
